Spring clean?

Get in, get out with HRC smart planning!

Gloucestershire County Council is advising residents in Gloucestershire about how to ensure they have an easy and pleasant trip to a household recycling centre ahead of May.

With two bank holidays, the centres can get busy and congested, but teams are offering the following tips to make your visit as simple as possible:

  1. Plan your visit - by sorting your items before you leave your house, you can make quick stops to put the items in the right containers and move on, speeding up things for you at the HRC.

  2. Avoid visiting at the busiest times if you can. On a weekend and bank holidays this tends to be between 11am and 2pm. The quietest times are between 9-10am and after 4pm. Equally, sites are open seven days a week, so if you can visit on a week day, you may find the site quieter.

  3. If you wish to bring a van or trailer then these must be booked in online at least 24 hours in advance.

Household Recycling Centres also have special bins for recycling old batteries and clothes and other textiles, and all centres accept larger items as well, such as pushbikes, and by recycling these unwanted items we're avoiding landfill.

Visiting Household Recycling Centres aren't the only options you have. You can contact your local council, or a range of charity organisations that will collect bulky items, such as white goods, from your home.

If you're taking a van or a trailer to one of our HRCs, please book it in online through Using-a-van-pick-up-or-large-trailer prior to your visit.

Cllr Ray Theodoulou, cabinet member for waste disposal, said: "With the bank holiday weekends coming up and spring upon us, we expect to see a rise in visits to our recycling centres.

"I hope that people listen to the advice about planning their trip, to help them have an easy and quick visit."
