Top tips for reducing your plastics at home and on the go

Reducing your single use plastic can seem like a minefield - we've shared some handy tips below to help you easily navigate reducing your single-use plastic at home and while you're on the go.

What will you try?

Plastic free kitchen ideas

Swap out clingfilm for a plastic free alternative

Try some plastic free alternatives like wax wraps and fabric plate covers instead. The good old fashioned plate on top of a bowl in the microwave and fridge or reusing your old plastic lunch box is always a good idea too! Reusable boxes can be a great way to swap out single use bags for storing leftovers in the fridge or freezer.

You can have a go at making your own wraps -  Find out how to make your own wax wraps here.

Try and buy loose where you can

When you're doing your big shop, have a look to see what's available loose and plastic free before reaching for the pre-packaged items. Most supermarkets will provide plenty of loose options at competitive prices too!

Opt for refillable kitchen cleaning products

Ditching the single use cleaning product bottles will save you bags full of plastic bottles every year. Refillable options such as dissolvable sachets and liquid concentrates are widely available, as are bulk buying options where you can refill yourself at home or in refill shops!

You can even have a go at making your own surface spray and save even more - Find out how to make your own surface cleaner here.

Scrub and wipe down plastic free

When you wash and use plastic cleaning sponges, brushes and cloths, they release micro plastics into the water system which are impossible to remove. They are also not able to be recycled! By simply swapping out your cleaning tools for wooden and bio based options, you can easily reduce plastic pollution coming from your kitchen.
