Where are they taken?

Aluminium cans are sent to Novelis in Warrington, Cheshire.

Steel cans are sent to Tata Steel in Port Talbot, South Wales.

What happens to them?

The aluminium cans are smelted down and turned into new alloy ingots (metal bars) ready to be made into more recycled metal products.

The steel cans are processed and turned back into steel sheets and ingots (metal bars) ready to be made into more recycled metal products.
