Some plastic free swaps are easier than others, either because of associated costs and the time the swap takes, so we have ranked all our plastic free food swaps as either bronze, (easy) silver, (more tricky) gold (for plastic-free pros).
Bronze
- Use your leftover Turkey to make homemade instant noodles. Just pour hot water with miso or stock over turkey and noodles and drizzle with soy sauce. For a more sophisticated turkey noodle soup try this
- Buy mincemeat in a jar and ready-made pastry to make your own mince pies, the preparation takes 10 minutes at most and you can add whatever decorations you like!
Silver
- Ditch ready meals and freeze your leftovers instead, batch cook and then always have a quick dinner ready in the freezer.
- Tray bakes are a great way to get a lot of food to take to a party with minimum fuss. Try swapping a store bought quiche for one of these super easy tray bake tarts.
Gold
- Some things have a lot of packing when you buy them but can be made relatively easily from plastic free ingredients, try making your own dips, biscuits, crackers, bread, soup and even some cheese (like paneer) can be made at home!
- Try and grow your own fresh herbs that you need over the festive season, fresh homegrown potted herbs also make a wonderful gifts!
