Household Waste - Your Responsibilities

If you hire a company to do work at your property (such as building, gardening, scrap collection, or fitting a new kitchen), you and the company are both responsible for the waste they produce, including transport and disposal.

Key points for householders:

  • Always check the company is a registered waste carrier.
  • Ask to see their registration certificate and keep proof.
  • Always ask for a receipt.
  • Note their name and vehicle registration.
  • Be cautious if the price seems too cheap.

If your waste is later found to be fly-tipped, it can be traced back to you. You could face fines or prosecution.
